My Allergies are Killing Me!

7 Keys to Providing Allergan Relief

I am certain if you have dealt with allergies then you have felt this at one time or another. If  you are an allergen sufferer or know of one, then let’s dive in further, so we can understand what an allergen is as well as natural ways to assist in seeking relief from allergies.

An allergen is an allergic response that occurs when the body's immune system overreacts to a trigger. Histamine is a chemical that triggers allergic reactional symptoms.

Let’s look at natural remedies that may be able to provide relief during this time.

1) Butterbur

Butterbur has been used as a natural remedy for migraines and has been shown to significantly decrease allergy symptoms. One study in the British Medical Journal of 125 people with hay fever found that the butterbur worked just as well as cetirizine, which is marketed as Zyrtec.

2) Rosemary

Research has shown that Rosemary is effective in fighting allergy symptoms. This herb contains a free radical scavenger called rosmarinic acid, which suppress the inflammatory responses of certain white blood cells, as well as allergic antibodies.

3) Apple Cider Vinegar

There is an abundant use for Apple Cider Vinegar, but did you know that Apple cider vinegar is also an allergy remedy, it reduces mucus production and filters your lymphatic system. The most direct approach is to swallow a tablespoon. If that direct approach is too much, try including a tablespoon to a cup of hot water with a small bit of honey.

4) Exercise

Moderate to intense activity for just 30 minutes can result in significant allergy relief. The premise is that this reprieve occurs because movement produces an anti-inflammatory effect in your nasal passages, helping to naturally reduce allergy symptoms.

5) Bee Pollen

Like honey, bee pollen contains the natural elements from where the bees live.

6) Probiotics
Probiotics increase your immune system by initiating beneficial bacteria into your digestive tract. Probiotics can be in fermented foods. Kefir, Kombucha, Sauerkraut and Pickles just to name a few so be sure to include these in your meal planning.

7) Dietary Changes

What we eat plays a major role in our overall health. It contributes to your mood and capability to get a full night’s relaxation. It’s a major factor in energy stages, skin presence, and weight balance. It can also play a big role in how our body handles allergies. The healthier you are, the better your body will respond. Some patients find that certain foods can trigger intense allergy symptoms. For example, many allergy sufferers experience an allergic response to the following foods:

Sugar
Peanuts
Bananas
Shellfish
Wheat
Soy
Pineapple
Cucumbers
Sunflower seeds
Melons
Zucchini

Our immune systems are uniquely complex.  Learning to become familiar with the subtle needs of your own unique system is a process but a doable process.

Naturopathic clinics work closely with you to recognize the root cause of your allergy signs. Remember, knowledge is power.
